Elf Israëlische mensenrechtenorganisaties richten zich tot de donors van zes door Israël bedreigde Palestijnse ngo’s met de oproep hun steun aan die ngo’s te handhaven of op te voeren. De oproep is ook voor de Nederlandse regering bestemd.
In een scherpe verklaring onderstrepen de prominente Israëlische organisaties hun eerdere oproep aan de internationale gemeenschap om zich af te zetten tegen de Israëlische criminalisering van zes Palestijnse non-gouvernementele organisaties (ngo’s). Zij dringen er bij donoren van die ngo’s op aan zich niet door Israël en zijn lobby te laten intimideren, maar om hun steun voort te zetten en die zo mogelijk op te voeren.
De Israëlische oproep heeft extra betekenis voor de Nederlandse regering, die afgelopen week besloot haar financiering van de Palestijnse landbouworganisatie UAWC – één van de zes bedreigde ngo’s – stop te zetten. Gezien de onthutsende onderbouwing van dat besluit is evident dat Nederland is gebogen voor de Israëlische intimidatie. In november beschreven wij hoe het kabinet zich onder druk liet zetten door pro-Israëlische actoren, waaronder het Israëlische NGO Monitor, het Britse UK Lawyers for Israel (UKLFI) en het Nederlandse Centrum voor Informatie en Documentatie Israël (CIDI).

Joint call by Israeli civil society organizations to donors of designated Palestinian NGOs
In a joint statement published in Haaretz on 5 November 2021, we called on the international community to unequivocally oppose the Israeli government’s designation of six Palestinian civil society organizations as ‘terrorist organizations’. As our statement says: criminalizing the work of these prominent Palestinian NGOs is an act of cowardice, characteristic of repressive authoritarian regimes.
The designations are intended to intimidate international donors of the six NGOs and of Palestinian civil society more broadly. For years, the Israeli government and groups affiliated with it have been waging aggressive campaigns to defund NGOs that peacefully challenge Israel’s occupation and annexation policies. Palestinian NGOs have been the main target of these campaigns. The recent designations are the Israeli government’s ultimate attempt to defund them.
We urge all donors of the six NGOs – governments, foundations and individuals – to maintain and, if possible, to increase their funding. Defunding the designated NGOs based on unsubstantiated allegations and designations will cause irreparable damage to Palestinian civil society at large and would undermine decades of humanitarian and human rights work.
